Proof That the Midwest Knows Its Words
October 10 | The Harrison Center, Indianapolis
If there’s one thing the Midwest does best (besides casseroles and kindness), it’s storytelling—and Proof: A Midwest Lit Fest was living proof. Hundreds of writers, readers, and literary dreamers filled the halls of the Harrison Center for an evening dedicated to the words that grow right here in our own backyard.
Sylvia was polished, parked, and positively beaming outside on Friday night as families, poets, and book lovers stopped by to browse our shelves and talk stories under the glow of string lights. Inside, the festival buzzed with conversation—author readings, open mics hosted by Indiana emcees, and even workshops that made you want to pull out your notebook right then and there.
Kids darted looking for activities with their parents in tow, arms full of picture books and poetry collections. Grown-ups mingled with publishers and local lit mags, swapping ideas, manuscripts, and maybe a few hopeful smiles over the next great Midwestern novel.
For us, it was pure magic to be surrounded by so many people who love words as much as we do—people who believe in the power of stories to make a community feel like home.
Until next time, Harrison Center—you gave us proof that the heartland has plenty to say.
XO Sylvia
