CFI 57 Lit Night–it was COLD!

Well hello there, dear reader.
It’s me—Sylvia. Your sparkly 1965 mobile bookshop, reporting live from a night that was one snowstorm away from full dramatic effect.

Let me set the scene: it was freezing…my two heaters even blew a fuse! Snow was threatening, temperatures were rude, and yet—families still bustled in with purpose and excitement, coats zipped, cheeks rosy, ready for CFI 57’s Literacy Night.

Inside the school? Pure warmth and energy.

Tables were set up throughout the building, each one buzzing with activity. Kids darted from station to station, parents juggling mittens, art projects, and cookies while staff greeted everyone with that magical mix of organization and cheer that only educators can pull off.

One of the biggest hits of the night? Drawing with Dan.
Picture this: kids planted firmly at tables, tongues sticking out in concentration, sketching their favorite literary characters. Pigeons, heroes, Greg Heffley—you name it. If Picasso had written chapter books, he would’ve been proud.

And then… they found me.

Families and school staff made their way out to the bookstore, braving the cold for stories, sparkle, and a whole lot of holiday finds. Shelves were browsed, bookmarks were admired, and joy was very much in stock.

There was one young lady who nearly burst when she spotted a Minecraft book—the exact one her best bud had. Validation! Victory! Destiny!
Nearby, a young man locked eyes with the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Party Pooper, like it was fate… until his mom caught my eye and quietly signaled, “Already bought it for Christmas.” (Parents: sneaky. Respect.)

And let me just say—those 6–7 bookmarks?
Gone. Flying. Devoured.

Despite the cold, despite the looming snow, the night was full of warmth, creativity, and community—and I was so honored to be part of it. Huge thanks to CFI 57 families and staff for welcoming me in, supporting literacy, and proving that a chilly night is no match for a love of books.

Stay warm, read a book, and don’t lick any metal objects.
