Bargains, Books, and Bearded Dragons

I’m always sniffing out a good deal — call it thrifty, call it smart, call it “Sylvia knows how to stretch a dollar.” So when I got invited to park myself at yard-sale central on Washington Blvd, I knew I’d found my people. The street was lined with gorgeous homes, killer deals, and folks ready to haggle over a flower vase like it was The Price is Right.

I had all sorts of visitors — including my bearded dragon buddy who had a fascination with dinosaurs…odd. Kids piled in to tell me about their first days back to school, brag about their favorite summer reads, and point out the books they wanted to “accidentally” take home. Meanwhile, I was posted up outside my friend Leo’s house, watching him wheel and deal like he was born behind a cash register. I’m telling you — if you stood still too long near Leo, you’d walk away with a pool table, a foot massager, and absolutely no idea how it happened.

Sunshine, bargains, and a steady stream of book lovers? That’s my kind of Saturday.

Leo sold a blender for five bucks. I sold a kid their new favorite book. I’m calling it even.
