A Night of Stories at Holy Angels
I rolled up to Holy Angels Catholic School for their literacy night, and from the second my tires hit the curb I knew this crowd meant business—book business. Families arrived with big smiles, ready for stories, sketches, and just the right amount of friendly chaos.
Kids grabbed markers and went to work alongside our very own Dan, sketching their favorite literary characters with laser focus.
Then came the Advance Reader Copy raffle. Nothing like the words exclusive sneak peek to turn a calm parking lot into a mini stock exchange. I lost count of the good-luck kisses planted on those tiny slips of paper.
Thanks to our members and donors, every child stepped inside and picked a book to keep. A trio of girls flopped onto my cushions, raved about the pillows, and announced they were “moving in.” I told them rent’s due on the first and I only accept payment in snacks and book reviews.
The families and students of Holy Angels were beyond gracious—equal parts polite and hilarious. Their thank-yous lingered long after I pulled away.
Still carrying that new book smell,
XO Sylvia
