A Hallmark Day at Dull’s Christmas Tree Farm

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my decades of rolling around the Midwest, it’s this: nothing—and I mean nothing—beats the magic of an entire winter day at Dull’s Christmas Tree Farm.

We rolled in early, the sun barely awake, snow still dusting the ground like powdered sugar on a donut. The temps were cold enough to make my aluminum panels gasp, but in true Book Fairy fashion, we bundled up, set up, and waited for that signature Dull’s magic to hit.

And when the barn doors opened?
Bam. Instant Hallmark movie.

People poured in steadily all day long—early afternoon through sunset—wrapped in their warmest coats and cutest holiday outfits. Kids in puffy coats, parents with thermoses, grandparents ready to spoil everyone, and so many sweet pups trotting along.

And threaded through it all?
The gentle giants of South Central Newfoundland Rescue.

These incredible Newfoundlands spent the entire day helping families pull their freshly cut Christmas trees—tails wagging, drool sparkling (it’s festive, okay?), hearts as big as their paws. Watching them work never gets old. They bring pure joy to the farm, and the whole day was in support of their rescue efforts.

But the ambiance? So good even Santa took notes.

The smell of homemade donuts drifted through the air nonstop. Hot cocoa warmed cold hands. Bonfires crackled. Christmas music wrapped itself around the farm like a cozy scarf. There wasn’t a single moment—from dawn to dusk—that didn’t feel like we were all extras in the world’s happiest winter movie.

Inside my shiny silver self, families shopped all day long for holiday books, thoughtful gifts, cozy seasonal reads, stocking stuffers and little treasures.

And they shopped with heart—knowing that 15% of every purchase went directly to South Central Newfoundland Rescue. People were genuinely excited to support the pups while checking items off their holiday lists.

The Dull’s staff? Don’t even get me started. Absolute holiday angels. So kind, so helpful, and somehow still smiling at hour eight…which tells me the farm hires only people who have permanent Christmas spirit in their DNA.

As the sun finally dipped and the last families headed home—trees strapped to cars, donuts in hand, dogs tired and happy—I couldn’t help but feel that warm, fuzzy, “we did something really good today” glow.

Thank you, Dull’s, for a full day of magic.
Thank you, SCNR, for the incredible work you do.
And thank you to every family who supported, shopped, wagged, sipped cocoa, or just stopped to say hi.

Until the next snowy adventure—

Love & warm cocoa wishes,

Sylvia
